Glock Single Stack 45 - Here's what you need to know: The Glock 36, like the Officer, is a single-stock .45 pistol. Like the Officer, the Glock is essentially a scaled-down version of the original pistol. That being said, Glock's more advanced operating system and use of modern materials give it a decided edge over the older design.
Until recently, the most common .45-caliber compact pistol was called the Officer's Model. A derivative of the 1911A1 government, in 2011 it was finally replaced by an even lighter pistol, the Glock 36. Chambered in .45 ACP and following the same winning formula as previous Glocks, the Model 36 may be the best compact single-stock ever. 45 in the market today.

The 1911 .45 caliber pistol designed by John Moses Browning is one of the most successful pistols of all time. Adopted by the US Armed Forces during World War I, it served in World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam, and the final years of the Cold War. The all-steel plate gun was large, heavy and imposing, but durable and would last for decades. Colt's production subsequently developed and released a smaller and lighter version called the Colt Commander, but it failed to gain traction to replace the original 1911A1.

A second pistol developed by Colt, the Colt Officer's Model, further shrunk the gun, reducing the barrel length by an inch and a half and the overall weight by half a pound. The result is a smaller, lighter and more compact version of the 1911A1, better suited to mechanized military officers who spend a lot of time in the confined spaces of armored vehicles or aircraft. The trade-off was a greater propensity for the shooter to experience muzzle flip, but that was the price to pay for pairing the .45 cartridge with a shorter barrel.
In 2011, Glock released a new pistol to address the officer-style pistols in the .45 concealed carry market. The Glock 36, like the Officer, is a single-stock .45 pistol. Like the Officer, the Glock is essentially a scaled-down version of the original pistol. That being said, Glock's more advanced operating system and use of modern materials give it a decided edge over the older design.
The Glock 36, like all Glock variants in all calibers and types, is essentially the original Model 17. Glock pistols eschew the traditional hammer and striker system, especially common in older pistols, for a striker-fired system that connects the striker to the striker. In percussion pistols, the gun is half-cocked when the slide is extended and chambered – the gun is fully cocked and fired by pulling the trigger. This allows several safeties to be built into the firing pin system, including the trigger guard, firing pin safety, and trigger guard.
Another feature that the Glock lacked in the 1911 was the use of polymers to reduce weight. All Glocks use a polymer frame and grip to accommodate the magazine and fire control group, reinforced in some places with steel. Additionally, the use of polymers whenever possible allows the Glock to achieve a weight reduction of four ounces. The Glock 36 still uses a steel slide, barrel, guide, and other parts to handle the pressure and recoil of the firearm's cartridges.
Review: Subcompact Pistol Glock 36 In Caliber .45 Acp
The Glock 36 has an overall length of 6.97 inches and a barrel length of 3.78 inches. It has an overall width of 1.18 inches. It weighs just 22.4 ounces with an unloaded magazine, and a loaded seven-round magazine increases the weight to 26.81 ounces. An example of an officer-style pistol made today, the Springfield Armory Range Officer Compact, is 7.6 inches long with a 4-inch barrel. An all-steel pistol, it has an unloaded weight of 28.5 ounces, a full quarter pound more than the Glock. The Range Officer Compact has the same six-round magazine capacity as its Glock competitor—plus an extra round in the chamber.
The Colts Officer's Pistol and Glock 36 are scaled-down variants derived from pistols intended for military service. Both have their advantages and disadvantages—some users may prefer the Colt's exposed hammer or the Colt's all-steel design—but as subcompact pistols, the American and Austrian pistols bring something new to the table that their full-size versions don't. The Glock 36 is excellent for concealers, those who work in confined spaces, or those who want a small, powerful, highly reliable handgun.
Kyle Mizokami is a San Francisco-based writer who has appeared in The Diplomat, Foreign Policy, War is Boring, and The Daily Beast. In 2009, he co-founded the defense and security blog Japan Security Watch. This is the best defensive choice I can make with a gun. It's compact so it can go anywhere and the .45 is your proven combat limit. As expected, it bounces when fired, but a firm grip and some range practice will alleviate a lot. If you don't mind a little muzzle jump, this is an excellent defense gun.
Buy one, send the slide to a glock shop for a predator cut, get the barrel titanium nitrided, install all the advanced controls available, pick up a tungsten guide rod, pyramid trigger, some magazine extensions and, in my opinion, a better weapon to carry.

Wear the belt inside and you can go out in the summer heat with shorts and a non-print t-shirt. In autumn/winter it is invisible with a light jacket or sweater. With one round in the chamber and seven in the magazine (+1 extension), you have 8 rounds of .45 acp, which is easy enough to handle any critical incident.
Don't get me wrong, I love my G43 and now that I've adjusted the trigger on my Springfield XD 45 I like it better. But the G36 epitomizes what a concealed carry gun should be.
In my opinion, this is one of the most underrated Glock models. As a .45 ACP enthusiast this is a great CC choice. I equipped my G36 with Glock night sights, a 3.5lb trigger, a stock trigger, and a Pierce +0 grip extension. It has surprisingly low recoil.
Now that the frame comes with the ability to mount a light or laser, I expect this model to become even more popular.

I hope Glock continues to update the G36 and expand their single stock lines with the growing success of the G42 and G43.
A must carry if you are looking for a single stock, great and very smooth shooting. I got one with matching rail accessories.
I bought a Glock 36 when they first came on the market to replace my backup pistol (SW640).
It became an EDC concealed weapon until my G21 was retired and the 640 was still strapped to my ankle.
Glock 45 9mm Pistol Review: A Duty Gun Tested
I was an undercover detective for about 30 years, before I retired I bought a Glock 36, had it for 20 years, not a single failure in that time. The Glock 36 is a sleek, powerful, simple and reliable self-defense weapon. Shooters with recoil problems are beginners who need some practice. He also likes this side arm. Easy to disassemble for cleaning (required every 400+ rds or so). It is the perfect self defense gun
I bought my Glock 36 5 years ago and have been pleased with how well it shoots. For a .45 ACP with only a 3½" barrel, recoil is very manageable. Surprising accuracy out to 15 yards, certainly for close range defense. Standard Glock trigger with medium clearance and decent trigger reset. With stock sights, getting sight alignment is very good. I installed +1 extensions on my magazines which Gives me 7+1 rounds. Even though I own relatively large pistols, the weight and firepower of this pistol can't be beat. The Glock 36 continues to be my daily carry. I haven't found a better one for concealment, being a Glock it's reliable and I'm confident I'll defend myself with it if needed.
I've carried mine over the years in the deserts of Idaho, Utah, Montana. Fit 3lb trigger, Laser-Max laser, Trijicon night sights. I loaded a 230 hardball into a 5" spec barrel (860 fps), which stayed within the pressure recommendations. It will definitely knock you out, but I found it to be very effective against a man or a bear.
